Nicole Langhals Picture 2Nicole Langhals is the 2014 winner of the Barbara Fleming Memorial Scholarship sponsored by Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio, Bluffton & Pandora (MHCO).  Nicole is a 2012 graduate of Columbus Grove High School and is currently enrolled at the University of Akron in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.  Nicole is the daughter of Doug and Mary Langhals of rural Columbus Grove. This annual award of $500 provides scholarship support to an individual pursuing a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse, a Registered Nurse or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.  Barbara Fleming, in whose honor the scholarship is made possible, was a resident of Mennonite Memorial Home from 1997-2000, was trained as a nurse and throughout her life exhibited the caring nature that characterizes the profession of nursing.  The elders and staff of MHCO wish Nicole the best as she pursues her calling to serve others through the honorable profession of nursing.

Willow Ridge of Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio (MHCO) was named number 13 in the State of Ohio according to the recently released results of the 2014 Ohio Department of Aging Resident Nursing Home Family Satisfaction Survey.  Willow Ridge, a faith-based, not-for-profit nursing home community featuring the first Green House Homes in Ohio, scored a 94.6% satisfaction score to achieve this ranking.  The survey, which included results from 610 nursing home communities (out of 960 nursing communities in Ohio) measured the satisfaction of family members of each nursing home resident about his or her perception of the facility's activities, administration, meals and dining, direct care, nursing and other factors that affect his or her family member's life in the facility. Willow Ridge meets the needs and demands of the elders they serve in an environment created from the ground up to foster the same feeling and experience elders get from living in their own home.  Each Green House Home at Willow Ridge is designed for 10 elders with the comfort of private rooms and bathrooms combined with the family-like atmosphere of open common spaces.  This innovative model gives elders four times more contact with staff than a traditional nursing home setting.  To learn more about Willow Ridge, visit www.mhcoliving.org/willow-ridge or by phone at 419-358-1015, ext. 225.  Full survey results can be viewed at: http://aging.ohio.gov/ltcquality/inc/docs/2014ResSat_Overall.pdf
