Following the retirement of Sonia Irvin, Mennonite Home Communities welcomes our newest member of the leadership team – Charles Jackson. Charles will be serving as the Administrator of the Mennonite Memorial Home and Willow Ridge campuses, and he began this role on October 19th.
Although new to MHCO, Mr. Jackson brings a wealth of experience and passion in senior living and healthcare. He has a unique background, in that he got his start working in the kitchen – working his way up to a Dietary Manager position and earning his Dietetic Technology Registration (DTR) from the American Dietetic Association. He soon was looking for more of a challenge, however, which he found in nursing home administration. Charles has been a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator since 2009, and prides himself in helping his teams achieve good department of health survey results, increasing the CMS star ratings, and improving recruitment and retention of staff. Over the years he has also endeavored to learn as much as possible – he holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, an MBA in Healthcare Administration, has completed the AANAC Resident Assessment Coordinator training, and earned his State Trained Nurse’s Aide license in 2008, which he still keeps active by working on the floor every year. He enjoys forging relationships that can only be made by in-person interaction providing direct elder care, and stated, “There’s always a shift to pick up.”
Charles is from the Youngstown area originally, but now lives in Lima with his son, Mason. They enjoy traveling together – especially to national parks. Charles indicated their favorite parks so far are Bryce Canyon, Arches National Park, and Red Rock Canyon. He has been to 41 of the 50 states, and hopes to make their next trip a big one – to Hawaii, as his son would like to see a volcano. Other hobbies that Charles enjoys include mountain climbing and riding his Harley motorcycle.
Charles is looking forward to a new experience in his first non-profit senior living community, and we welcome him to the team!
