Supporting MHCO Wish Lists & Charitable Funds

This year the Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio were blessed to receive a meaningful gift of engagement from the Allen East middle school student council.

The middle school student council, with teacher Joyce Klein as advisor, decided they would like Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio to be the recipient of their 2017 spring gift.

Allen East Students Donate to MHCO

Each year they raise money from their dances to support a local organization. The students at Allen East have moved toward making their gift to a local organization so they can see their project support in action.

Some of the youth have close connections to Willow Ridge so they used their funds toward a MHCO Wish List item that benefited the elders there.

MHCO Wish List

The wish list at MHCO is a list of items that staff and residents have requested to better improve the quality of service and life of our residence. Items on the list include outdoor benches, reclining lift chairs, and large print books.

Area community members and residents have shared, “I care about this community. It is not only a place where I live, but it also has cared for my extended family members. I want to support causes and organizations that make a difference for the people in this community.”

The wish list serves as a way for those wishing to donate to discover items that our residents need.

Making Wishes Come True

More recently, Lynn Miller and grandson Douglas Nester volunteered to design and build the raised garden beds, also an item on our wish lists.

The additional beds will allow elders to stay active with gardening and have fresh produce for their kitchen.

Area community members and residents have shared, “I care about this community. It is not only a place where I live but it also has cared for my extended family members. I want to support causes and organizations that make a difference for the people in this community.”

MHCO is honored with these examples of goodwill from the area youth, elders and community members. Each is a reflection of what we hope to accomplish with charitable support: enhance our programming, enrich daily living for elders, and foster community. We are thankful for these expressions of meaningful engagement in the MHCO community. In the pages that follow are the names of many generous donors who made a decision to support MHCO in 2016.

Charitable Opportunities at MHCO

We realize that every gift has a story and we thank you for choosing to support Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio. Each charitable contribution helps support the mission of MHCO.

Since 1955 our communities have been committed to serving all elders, including those who have exhausted their financial resources and rely on Medicaid assistance to pay their healthcare costs. Unfortunately, Medicaid reimbursement does not cover the full cost of providing care. Last year MHCO had more than 124 residents eligible for benevolent assistance.

Aging service organizations like MHCO are feeling some uncertainty as the costs of providing high-quality care increases, and health care funding is under review. The unpaid cost of care is considered a community benefit. Contributions to our benevolent fund or endowment help cover this gap.

Your contributions of financial resources and volunteer hours from family, friends, churches, community organizations and residents support the mission of MHCO and ensure that elders and children enjoy purposeful living. Thank you for your generous gifts!
